Your beliefs don’t make you a better person. Your behavior does. – Unknown
Back in the day,
the better races had speakers
and, well, it was all great fun,
in addition to the race itself.
Once in a great while, I would get invited
to speak at such an occasion.
Which I would do,
in exchange for first class flight,
first class lodging,
$100 per diem and
the cute little waitress
in the crisp white shirt
and tight black slacks.
Life was good.
when running was young
and so were we.
Anyway,
found this note. Goes like this…
For those of you
who’d rather listen to
Dr. George Sheehan tonight,
I offer the following.
“It came about
when I was perhaps 45.
Was following a pre-ordained
life. Very dull,
stultifying. Seriously
considered becoming a real
estate agent, something
exciting like that.
I’d completely blown my mind.
I’d fall asleep
in front of the TV.
Get bombed out on the weekend.
I was developing fat in my body.
fat in my brain,
and fat in my soul.
THEN I STARTED RUNNING….
Changed my point of view.
I am more alive.
Life has become a really
great day-to-day enjoyment.
A puzzle.
Life has become
a fantastic game.”
I would say
much the same shit..
