Watching Taxi Driver, A Potential Trump Voter Wonders…

The idea had been growing in my brain for some time. True force.

All the king’s men cannot put it back together again. – Travis Bickle

I am an angry old college-educated white married male in a deep red – garnet even – Congressional district. Multiple neighbors are flying large expensive-looking flags TRUMP 2020: NO MORE BULLSHIT. And then there’s the banner, bright as snow except for the ominous silhouette of an AR-15 and the words Come & Get It. Meanwhile, our HOA has radar detectors, in case we exceed thirty miles per hour in our golf carts.

Ninety percent of the county’s population is also white. Our bus stops have neither benches nor cover. Waffle House is considered fine dining and whittling is modern art.

I’m a vet – the Cold War, which I thought we’d won – who depends on his monthly Social Security check to arrive in a timely manner. I have a pre-existing condition which is covered by Medicare, my government-funded health insurance. That Federal safety net is literal in my case. And I am entitled because I fucking earned it.

My pronouns are “sir” and “dude.”

I believe in climate change because I know commercial fishermen. Three billion dead songbirds can’t be wrong.

I am a member of no party, organized or otherwise. If I had to describe myself, I identify as a Constitutional libertarian. (Would you believe an honors degree in political philosophy?) I believe in facts, in science, in the truth, in what I see with my own ears and hear with my own eyes. I understand the English language and I hear a lie almost before you can get it out of your head.

I can’t help wondering. Am I on the wrong side of history? Not to mention the republic.

If our Great Leader was a Russian asset, what would he be doing differently? Democracy, really, who cares? I wonder.

I can read faces. Especially white faces. And these are especially white.

Not to brag, but my IQ is in the triple digits. Which means I have questions.

Did most everything you ever claimed to believe before Trump, was that a lie?

Did you really love activist judges all along?

Why give billions to Big Farma and cut food stamps for the poor?

What did an immigrant ever do to you except drive you to the airport or mow your lawn or clean your toilets or pluck your chickens? Shit you don’t want to do yourself. Like invent Google.

If The Chosen One did shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue, would you vote to re-elect Him? Say you saw it for yourself and the Acting Chief of Staff confessed….

Well. Whatever it is, you should clean up this city here, because this city here is like an open sewer you know. It’s full of filth and scum. And sometimes I can hardly take it. Whatever-whoever becomes the President should just [honks the horn] really clean it up. You know what I mean? Sometimes I go out and I smell it, I get headaches it’s so bad, you know…They just never go away you know…It’s like…I think that the President should just clean up this whole mess here. You should just flush it right down the fuckin’ toilet.

– Travis Bickle

Do you just get over it?

GET OVER IT. That’s your campaign slogan?

Where do you draw the line?

Is power really the only thing you really believe in?

Just wondering.

Listen you ****ers, you screwheads. Here’s a man who would not take it anymore. Who would not let…Listen you ****ers, you screwheads. Here’s a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the scum, the ****s, the dogs, the filth, the shit, here is someone who stood up. HERE IS — [He draws his gun] You’re dead.

Because I’ll be honest, I’m looking for a candidate of either party who can win the Presidency honestly. Including the popular vote, I’m a dreamer. Honestly. Without foreign help.

More candor still. I remain convinced, if the country was being completely honest with itself… Al Franken/Katie Hill 2020. Funny and sexy.

Campaign slogan? COME TOGETHER, AMERICA.

Try to interfere with that, Putin and MS-13 and McConnell and MBS and Zuckerberg.

Just try to screw the USA one more time.

Just try.

Now I see it clearly. My whole life is pointed in one direction. I see that now. There never has been any choice for me.
