The Hitchhiker, Slowly Hunched

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I’ve ended up where I needed to be. – Douglas Adams

he walked on

slowly

shoulders hunched

into himself

as against a bitter wind.

he would have

stuck out his thumb

to speed his pace

but he could not bear

the rejection

of whizzingpast automobiles.

The rejection,

that’s why he walked on

alone

slowly hunched.
