My, How Soon Old We Get

There is nothing can pay one for that invaluable ignorance which is the companion of youth, those sanguine groundless hopes, and that lively vanity which makes all the happiness of life. – Mary Wortley Montagu

My, how soon old we get

one moment,

a whole life before us

the next –

do i mean moment

or life –

no longer expectant youth….

And most of us

reach the ending time

without a life to show

for having lived

because we haven’t.
