My wife asked for a favor.
Stacked in a corner,
a waist-high pile of women’s magazines,
which I am now reviewing.
Anything of interest to the Missus
gets clipped for her review.

The many weight loss articles are interspersed
with tasty recipes,
which take just minutes to prepare
after a long day at the office,
before you please your man.
I skip all of those.
***
Find myself clipping book reviews, primarily.
My wife and I are perfectly matched –
she reads, while I write.

Have you ever read O, Oprah Winfrey’s signature publication?
Oprah has had her own issues with weight loss –
and gain – and loss – well, you get the picture.
But her magazine seems to understand something primary
about achieving human satisfaction
it’s not how you are, but how you think you are.

I came across a conversation with Jerry Seinfeld,
The comedian discussed his Three Rules For Living.
“First, bust your ass. That’s a universal law, no matter what you do.
Second, pay attention. Learn from everything
and everyone all the time….
‘Wherever you look, there’s something to see.’…
Third rule: fall in love.
Fall in love with your street, your whatever, a pillow.
Pay attention: don’t let life go by you.
Fall in love with the back of your cereal box, Seinfeld counseled.
But be passionate about something.

I made a note to renew my subscriptions
to Men’s Journal and Sports Illustrated.
