As wonderful as dogs can be, they are famous for missing the point. – Jean Ferris
I don’t have dreams.
Sleep hard, nine hours a night.
Every night.
Don’t even get up to pee.
The dog climbs into bed with me.
And I put my arm
around him
And we snuggle.
There’s a woman in the bed, too.
Don’t put my arm
around her.
The woman and I don’t snuggle.
The dog and I love each other.
We know this to be true.
The woman and I, we’re not sure.
Are we in love?
The dog loves her.
She feeds him.
She feeds me, too.
It’s not enough.
A huge creature,
he loves to eat.
Maybe it’s enough for a dog.
I am lean like a good excuse.
In winter,
the dog throws off a lot of heat.
The woman sleeps
with the windows wide open.
When I am gone,
the dog doesn’t climb into bed.
The woman sleeps
alone.
