Thank you for being an ambassador for Boston Billy’s Blends! The Rodgers family is very excited for this opportunity to bring these delicious and refreshing teas to the runners of the world. Tea is a truly incredible drink – the second most popular drink on Earth after water – with as much variety and variation as there are runners on the road.

You don’t run 26 miles at five minutes a mile on good looks and a secret recipe. – Frank Shorter
Boston Billy’s Blends
On the Golden Anniversary of his first Boston Marathon victory, the good-looking old peacenik has finally come clean about the secret recipe to his great success and spectacular career – “Shoe Tie Chai.”
And now you can drink this formerly secret elixir in your own home or wherever your fitness journey takes you.
If you don’t believe me, just check out this material received directly from the Rodgers family.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of his first Boston win in 1975, Bill has released a new line of tea for runners!
These refreshing and delicious blends are packed with beneficial ingredients for the mind, body, and spirit – whether you’re running a marathon or running errands, Billy’s Blends keep you going strong mile after mile.
Energy: “Shoe Tie Chai.”
As a chocolate lover, Bill wanted to include something sweet in the collection that also offered great physical and mental potential health benefits.
Like any Chai Masala, a sweetener and creamer really brings out the flavors and maximizes your enjoyment. Black tea is linked with Cardiovascular Health, Blood Sugar Regulation, Weight Management, Cognitive Function, and much more. Black tea contains caffeine and a handy compound called L-theanine, which may improve focus, alertness, and brain function. With the addition of ginger (great for digestive support), cocoa beans, cinnamon, and other traditional spices, you better make sure you double knot because this one will knock your shoes off!

Endurance: “Finish Line Refresher”
This antioxidant-rich blend calms the mind, boosts metabolism, and will keep you going strong mile after mile. Green tea is a powerhouse of potential benefits for runners, and is used around the world to
maintain energy, treat gas, regulate body temperature and blood sugar, promote digestion, and improve mental processes.
Some studies even indicate that Green tea may help prevent coronary artery disease.
And the lavender isn’t just for show: This rockstar herb is believed to help relieve anxiety as well as support skin health, aid in digestion, and reduce inflammation. Finally, bee pollen is believed by many herbalists to potentially enhance athletic performance and improve allergies and asthma.
Rest & Relax: “Hopkinton Herbal”
This naturally caffeine-free blend is high in antioxidants and brimming with anti-inflammatory
ingredients commonly used as home-remedies for stomach issues, bloating, and stress. Every athlete knows that recovery is key to making progress, but it can be a challenge to slow down and allow your body to heal. Bill’s advice is “Pace Don’t Race,” because the slowest route to your goal is to rush. Every ingredient in this blend can help reduce anxiety, aid in digestion, support the immune system, and/or potentially provide a litany of small but helpful benefits for the body and mind.
We live in troubled times. What better way to chill than a hard 10K and a cup of Boston Billy’s Blends?
That reminds me. While I chill better these days with a hard power shuffle around the neighborhood and a vibrating heat pad, this is a decidedly tasty beverage with a embarrassingly high placebo factor. Frankly, I could use improved focus, alertness, and brain function, don’t know about you.
Fifty years ago, if Boston Billy (aka “New York City Willy”) said the key to his breakthrough 2:09:55 – a full second faster than the current women’s world record – was his new Nikes, you’d be breaking down the doors of the closest running specialty shop. Those that still carry Nike.
If he said the key to being the world’s top marathoner was one hundred thousand circuits of a tranquil pond, you’d soon be digging in your backyard and dragging out the garden hose.
Okay, suffice to say, until an Executive Order from the Oval Office eliminates all those ridiculous public safety regulations, shouldn’t be long, but until then, Mr. Rodgers and his entire family are prohibited from saying BOSTON BILLY’S BLENDS WILL DROP YOUR MILE PR BY TEN SECONDS. Guaranteed.
Bill can’t say that. Nobody can say that. Who can say?

The statements regarding the potential health benefits of our teas, Boston Billy’s Blends, are based on traditional herbal practices and anecdotal evidence and may not have been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or other regulatory authority. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Individual results may vary, and we recommend consulting a qualified healthcare professional before using herbal remedies, especially if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, are pregnant, or are taking medication.
Blah blah blah. A few billion Chinese and a host of hippies say these herbal remedies are effective.
Especially if you think they work. And if you think they work….
Not used to the good stuff, so, must admit, I was surprised to find Boston Billy’s Blends do not come in little bags. Who could’ve guessed? No bags, really? What if you are not mechanically inclined?
What if you find the instructions complicated, as I do? Judge for yourself.
Instructions: Steep a heaping teaspoon in 10 oz. of freshly boiled water for 4-5 minutes.
Seems pretty vague to me and I am completely out of steepers.
I am thinking – don’t try this at home/consult your physician first/may upset your stomach – capsules.
Here, feeling more alert by the soothing sip, remember I have but one kidney and that might be a bad idea. Plus no chocolaty taste. Capsules is most definitely a bad idea, I see that now.
My brain is functioning better already. More focused.
Can I make “sun tea” with this?
What about “Shoe Tai Chai” as a mid-race refueling beverage?

Don’t wait.

Epilogue.
My wife asked around.
The old hippy lady down at the bottom of the hill, she had empty bags, wouldn’t you know.
Tossed in some jasmine tea, too.
